VISTA Online Access Project Coordinator
For over 50 years, LAF (formerly Legal Assistance Foundation) has provided free civil legal aid to people living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago. Each year LAF’s attorneys, volunteers, and staff help resolve legal problems, including domestic violence, consumer fraud, and unfair evictions. In addition to representing individuals in court and administrative hearings, we run community legal clinics, provide know-your-rights workshops, and work with community-based organizations to address emerging issues as well as persistent problems that affect low-income families. Our work impacts more than 40,000 people each year. Position: A VISTA serving as the Online Access Project Coordinator at LAF will assist with efforts to increase the intake capacity of the agency’s Client Screening Unit. Responsibilities: Gain familiarity and understanding of LAF’s Online Access System and client screening services; develop and revise online rules of client screening and processing; design a user-friendly SharePoint page for the Client Screening Unit; redesign and implement the use of an online Client Screening Unit handbook; assist with updates and revisions to LAF’s client education materials.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•Experience with SharePoint preferred, but not required Term of Service: November 27, 2017 to November 26, 2018.
Program Benefits: Living allowance ($1,178/month), choice of Education Award ($5,920) or End of Service Stipend ($1,800) and Non-Competitive Eligibility status upon successful completion of service, housing supplement ($200/month), transit pass ($100/month), healthcare allowance, relocation payment ($550 *if eligible). Other Considerations: VISTAs may have outside employment and pursue an education, as long as it does not interfere with service responsibilities and is approved by a supervisor.
