Temporary MLCP/HCC Paralegal

Description: 

NLSLA is seeking a Paralegal for its MLCP division in the NLSLA Health Consumer Center (HCC). This position will be homebased in the NLSLA Pacoima office, but will travel to NLSLA’s three MLCP locations in Los Angeles. The candidate we seek will be able to handle significant client contact and is dedicated to working with non-profit public interest organizations. They will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, conduct research and problem-solve and possess excellent interpersonal skills.. They must possess strong communication skills (oral/written) in English and Spanish, coupled with patience and sensitivity with people in crisis situations.

Experience working with low-income individuals and families preferred. Qualified candidates must have one of the following: (1.) paralegal certificate, (2.) B.A. or B.S. degree with 1 year experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney or (3.) High School degree with 3 years’ experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney with a letter certifying the experience.

Requirements: 

Help co-ordinate the NLSLA/LA County Medical Legal Services (MLP-LA) pilot project, a component of LA County Department of Health Services’ Whole Person Care (WPC) system. Under the supervision of the MLCP Associate Supervising Attorney and NLSLA Coordinated Attorney Team Supervising Attorney will triage and distribute WPC staff’ Technical Assistance (TA) and/or client assistance requests to partners in real time (evaluating for urgency, substantive area, and geographic area). Be point person for WPC staff or partners to address issues related, but not limited to timeliness or conflicts and to escalate troubleshooting issues. Responsible for addressing "Special Emergency Client Referrals”. The paralegal will maintain accurate records of all TA and client assistance referrals distributed among MLP-LA partners and provide training to MLP-LA WPC staff.
