Tax Attorney

Description: 

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a Tax Law attorney in its Nashville office.  Attorney will provide legal representation to eligible clients in civil cases, with a primary focus on income tax controversies with the IRS, educating English as a Second Language persons on tax issues, and handling some bankruptcies.  As a part of a holistic approach, representation may include varying areas of law as needed. Participates in administrative advocacy, litigation in state, tax and federal courts and community education for clients in accordance with program guidelines and priorities and the Code of Professional Responsibility. 

This position is funded in part by an IRS Low Income tax Clinic grant that covers 91 counties in Tennessee.

Requirements: 

Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to practice law in Tennessee, or another state and applying for admission to Tennessee Bar. Two or more years practicing law preferred. Preferred five or more years of experience in policy administration or management of an office, firm, company, or non-profit organization. BA/BS/MBA in business, public administration, or related field preferred.  Possess experience with grant compliance, intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and excellent computer skills. Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners. Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines. Meticulous attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and shift priorities. Must have driver’s license and access to transportation.
