Supervising Attorney (Public Benefits Unit)

Description: 

Legal Aid seeks a full-time attorney to supervise its Public Benefits Unit at our Central Office in Kansas City, Missouri.  The unit primarily assists low-income clients with accessing public benefits administered by the Missouri Family Support Division, such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance, and assistance for the blind.  The unit assumes primary responsibility for unemployment compensation cases, adult guardianships, and other healthcare-related legal issues.   The unit currently consists of five attorneys and three paralegals.

Salary:  $52,000 plus, DOE.

Requirements: 

This position entails both supervisory and first chair responsibilities and requires excellent writing skills, attention to detail, work ethic, computer proficiency, and a desire and commitment to deliver high quality legal assistance to low-income people.  Candidates must be members of the Missouri Bar, or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity.  At least five years’ legal experience is required; supervisory experience and experience in the area of Medicaid and other public benefits are preferred (but not required).
