STAFF ATTORNEY - BALTIMORE CITY CHILD SUPPORT
Temporary Full-Time
The Baltimore City office announces a full-time, temporary staff attorney position to qualified applicants. Description: Provide extended representation to low income Baltimore City residents facing child support matters, including initial filings, contempt and modification actions. Work with other attorneys, law graduates, legal assistants/paralegals, social workers, and students on cases or projects. Maintain case files in accordance with Maryland Legal Aid standards. Participate in community outreach and education, including collaborations with other attorneys at community outreach sites with the goal of identifying clients that need representation in court.

Tasks assigned to staff attorney may include any or all but are not limited to the following:
1. Screen clients for eligibility and make referrals, as appropriate.
2. Conduct preliminary and subsequent interviews with clients.
3. Conduct factual investigation, analysis, and legal research.
4. Advise clients of results of investigation and research; counsel clients about their options.
5. Prepare legal documents, including but not limited to, correspondence, pleadings, memoranda of law, briefs, etc.
6. Develop case theory and strategies for the representation of clients.
7. Prepare cases, manage files and represent clients in negotiations, hearings, trials, and appeals.
8. Develop relationships with the Baltimore City Office of Child Support Services.
9. Work with various community groups and accept speaking engagements as assigned by supervisor on child support issues.
10. Continue professional development and education through attendance at trainings and other programs sponsored by Maryland Legal Aid.
11. Act as liaison between clients and PAI programs.
12. Maintain LegalServer case management records for clients.
13. Perform other duties, as assigned within the scope of the essential functions of the position. 

Requirements: 

Qualifications: Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland, or admitted in another jurisdiction, graduate of an ABA approved law school and eligible for admission in the State of Maryland. Out-of-State attorneys must be able and available to take next scheduled bar exam following date of employment. Knowledge of domestic law and ability to effectively manage a challenging case load. Familiarity with case management software and Office 365.
