Immigration/Domestic Violence Program Staff Attorney

Description:

Heart of Florida Legal Aid Society, Inc. (HOFLA) provides free civil legal aid services to low-income residents of Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties in family law and immigration cases. Our case priorities are family law and immigration cases, with a focus on victims of domestic violence and violent crimes and relief for undocumented children. Our offices are located in Bartow, FL and Sebring, FL.

Requirements:

HOFLA seeks a bi-lingual Spanish-speaking immigration attorney to work at our Bartow and Sebring office locations. The attorney will provide legal assistance to individuals who qualify for VAWA, U Visa, T Visa, Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status, and adjustment of status based on those forms of humanitarian immigration relief. The staff attorney may also assist eligible immigrants in obtaining Injunctions for Protection from Domestic Violence in state court and seek other available relief. The attorney will conduct Know Your Rights community education events, collaboratively work with our network partners, and expand our reach in the community. The staff attorney will be required to comply with HOFLA’s organizational program requirements and outcomes reporting. While we prefer a person with 1-2 years’ experience in immigration and family law and experience working with clients who are victims of trauma, we are willing to train the right motivated candidate who demonstrates a genuine passion for helping the immigrant community, shows s/he is a quick study, and is committed to going the extra mile to get up to speed in immigration and family law. Our civil legal aid law firm provides health insurance, sick days, and vacation time after a probationary period. Paid trainings are also provided. The atmosphere of the firm is fast-paced and the staff of 8-10 is close-knit requiring a person with a team-player attitude. Salary Ranges from $45K to $50K depending on experience. Student loan repayment assistance (LRAP) of up to $5,000 annually may also be available from the Florida Bar Foundation.
