Executive Director

Description: 

VLSP is a local not-for-profit corporation that provides free legal help to low income residents of Monroe County, New York who are facing non-criminal legal problems. VLSP’s services are provided by staff and pro bono attorneys who donate their time and talent to ensure that low income people have access to the justice system when faced with serious legal problems. Approximately 1,600 volunteers serve on the pro bono panel and the staff needed to administer the volunteer program has grown to 14.35 FTE. VLSP operates on an $1,200,000 annual budget.

VLSP has been recognized by the American Bar Association (“ABA”) and the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA”) as a leader in the pro bono movement. VLSP’s volunteer attorneys, supporters and staff have been recipients of national, regional and local awards, including the National Association of Pro Bono Professionals, Pro Bono Professional of the Year Award at the ABA’s Equal Justice Conference, the NYSBA’s President’s Pro Bono Service Award and GRAWA's Family Friendly Employer Award. VLSP’s programs are regularly featured in NYSBA and MCBA publications. VLSP's Executive Director has been a presenter at ABA and NYSBA conferences and provided technical assistance and consultation to other pro bono programs.

The Executive Director directs and manages the activities of the organization in accordance with the policies and strategic plan established by the Board. The new Executive Director will be charged with ensuring the achievement of short and long-range goals for all operations, human resources, financial performance, community relations and growth, including establishing and maintaining relationships with funders, legal services organizations and community based organizations.
