Director of Development and Communications

Description: 

The Director of Development & Communications plays a leading role in the overall sustainability and development of resources for Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) programs. Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, the Director will design and execute a comprehensive development & communications strategy that positions BayLegal for continued and future fundraising success from a range of sources within the legal community, as well as individuals dedicated to the elimination of poverty in the Bay Area. In addition, the Director supports the management team and the Board of Directors as they continue to take on a more active fundraising role. It is expected that the amount raised from private donors will increase in future years as the Director forges new relationships to build BayLegal's visibility, impact, capacity, and financial resources.

Requirements: 
  • Development/Fundraising: Proven success in development for a medium to large nonprofit organization. Experience running successful fundraising campaigns from multiple donor channels and expanding and cultivating donor relationships over time.
  • Relationship Building: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones. Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships. Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and with externally partners.
  • Communications: Skilled in crafting powerful, compelling written and oral messages to achieve organization goals. Ability to master complex ideas and convey information clearly and effectively for varied audiences. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to key stakeholders as well as external audiences.
  • Project Leadership and Collaboration: Possesses a flexible and adaptable leadership style with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to management team and board of directors.
