Domestic Violence Project

Community Outreach Worker

General  Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the VLAS Development Director with input from the unit Managing Attorney, the outreach worker will provide community education, build relationships with partner agencies and funding entities, and help ensure that the maximum number possible of domestic violence victims receive legal assistance from VLAS.

Duties: the outreach worker will, as requested by her or his supervisor:

1. Complete required training;

2. Create and implement a comprehensive outreach and referral plan to reach as many DV victims as possible in the VLAS service area by working through partner agencies;

3. Identify and coordinate with community partner agencies and community leaders to assist with outreach, education and referrals;

4. Identify hard to reach populations for outreach and education activities;

5. Arrange and present at community education and partner events;

6. Assist in drafting of marketing materials and evaluation instruments;

7. Perform such other tasks and may be assigned by the Development Director or unit Managing Attorney.

 

Employment Classification: Full-time employee exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of domestic violence causes, effects, laws and services

• Experience with community outreach, organizing and/or public campaigns.

• Experience and skill in group presentations and training

• Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to express ideas clearly and succinctly.

• Strong analytical skills, highly organized with attention to detail

• Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends

• Good computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
