Board Training Consultant

Description: 

Statewide Legal Service of CT, Inc. (SLS) seeks a trainer (“the Consultant”) to conduct a comprehensive Board of Directors training no later than April 27, 2018. SLS is a private non-profit law firm funded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) to provide quality legal services to low income people with civil legal needs in Connecticut. The training should include at the minimum the following topics: Board fiduciary responsibilities, including, but not limited to, program evaluation and oversight, fiscal oversight, program leadership and leadership succession planning, managing conflicts of interest, program policy governance, compliance with LSC regulations, and executive director evaluation. The successful Consultant will be responsible for setting up the check-in meetings/calls, preparing an agenda for each meeting/call, sending out meeting invites, and writing meeting minutes and exit summary. SLS administrative staff will assist with meeting site logistics. The Consultant will be responsible for developing and distributing all relevant materials with assistance and input from SLS’ Board Executive Committee and SLS management staff when needed. The Consultant shall be prepared to incorporate outside source materials from LSC and larger stakeholders if needed. SLS is undergoing a Strategic Planning process within the same time frame. The Consultant will work collaboratively and in tandem with the Strategic Planning process. This notice is cross-posted to with our RFP for Strategic Planning. The Consultant may, but need not, apply to facilitate both events.

Please provide a complete double-spaced written response to this RFP, not to exceed six (6) single sided pages. Proposals should include:
1. A brief Executive Summary.
2. A description of the Consultant’s general approach to governance and executive trainings, including the methodology, perspective, or philosophy that guides your work with organizations with similar needs.
3. A fee schedule with a detailed budget that breaks out costs and expenses.
4. Credentials and qualifications of Consultant including any experiences with the Legal Services Corporation or other federal funding sources;
5. Three company references.
6. Example(s) of board and executive trainings you have conducted for private non profit, government and similar human services entities, ideally but not necessarily within the legal services industry.

SLS’ estimated budget: $2,000 - $5,000.

Consultants must submit one (1) original paper copy and one (1) electronic copy of the proposal. Please note that SLS will not return any proposals.
