Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 1-2 years related experience and/or training;
- Ability to communicate effectively in American Sign Language.
NOTE: Applicants who claim to be fluent in any of the desired languages will be tested at time of interview.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, including a working knowledge of correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- Three years of progressively responsible administrative or secretarial experience.
- Keyboard Proficiency: 50 net words per minute.
- Skilled use of Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, and Excel.
- Effective telephone skills, including the ability to handle difficult calls and situations patiently and tactfully.
- Experience performing detailed administrative tasks, with the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, to work well under pressure and deadlines, and to effectively reprioritize and handle multiple tasks, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle confidential matters discretely; to work collaboratively as part of a team; to be flexible with changing situations; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees in various offices and programs, clients, and people outside the agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish/Asian language fluently.

- Specialized coursework or training in secretarial, business administration, or management.
- Experience using Access and/or PowerPoint database programs.
- A working knowledge of the laws, rights, and services pertaining to people with disabilities in California.
- Experience working for nonprofit and/or social service agencies.
- Experience in the disability rights movement and/or extensive contacts in the disability community.
- Experience with and/or extensive contacts in ethnic or language distinct communities.
- Familiarity and/or extensive contacts with one or more of the following: homelessness, criminal justice, substance abuse, or Gay/Lesbian/Bi-Sexual/ Transgender/Intersex (GLBTI) communities.
Bilingual Ability
Ability to communicate effectively in American Sign Language.
