How to Use Social Media in Legal Aid - Registration

Social media is quickly replacing newspapers and TV for community outreach, education, and marketing. It is faster, more flexible, less expensive, and more easily targeted to the needs of low income communities. Legal aid staff also use social media increasingly for case investigation, professional development and networking. Clients and friends of legal services use social media every day to ask for legal help, find referrals to other providers, learn about legal issues, access self-help resources, and educate themselves about the law.

This 90-minute webinar, presented by Brian Rowe and Cynthia Martinez, will examine how to use social media to improve communications and expand client services by legal aid programs.

The session will cover:

·     How lawyers and legal aid programs use social media now and how they can expand their use of social media;

·     What works and what doesn’t work;

·     Staffing time and considerations for social media;

·     Staff training to maximize the benefits of social media;

·     Target audiences including clients, the public, other lawyers and funders;

·     Current technology: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & others;

·     Partnerships and utilizing the networks of other organizations;

·     How to design a social media plan; and,

·     Tracking and measuring your success and failures in social media.

Participants will be asked what kinds of social media they use, and how they use it now, when they register for the webinar. Our presenters will use this information to frame their presentation for the audience’s interests and experience levels.
