June 22, 2011

Effective donor communications all have a dozen or so things in common. These secrets to success derive from many fields: marketing, psychology, eye-motion studies, journalism, and of course fundraising's own vast body of knowledge. At this webinar, you will learn what the world's top communicators know about the subtle science of persuading people to give and stay loyal -- AND you will learn to judge your own materials against these very same standards. This session equips you to return to your desk and ruthlessly (but profitably) assess the competence of your donor and prospect communications materials.

Presenter:
Tom Ahern, ABC
www.aherncomm.com

Tom Ahern is considered one of North America’s leading authorities on donor communications. Each year, he delivers dozens of workshops internationally (2010-2011: across North America, in New Zealand, the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and Italy) on the techniques of (and psychology behind) effective fundraising communications.

He is the author of four well-received books on donor communications, with a fifth soon to be published. He works with dozens of nonprofits each year, helping them with their cases, their newsletters, their websites, and their direct mail.

His 2010-11 clients include international brand names (Catholic Relief Services, Save the Children) ... major universities (Princeton, University of Calgary) ... some of America's oldest and biggest charities (Boy Scouts, Volunteers of America) ... top-tier performance groups (Houston Grand Opera) ... leading community foundations (New York Community Trust) ... national advocacy (National Parks Conservation Association, 350,000 members strong) ... as well as many smaller nonprofits.

He has a BA and MA in English from Brown University and a Certificate in Advertising Art from the R.I. School of Design. He and his wife, also an author and fundraising consultant, maintain a second home in France.

Legal Aid Recommendations:

"From the many seminars I have attended over the years, I found Tom Ahearn's to be among the most informative, down to earth and practical.  The sessions helped our legal services program refocus its donor appeals and communications that have proven to be very effective."
Jack Ward, Director of Finance and Development
Greater Boston Legal Services

"Tom's training helped me strip away all of the 'fluff' that surrounds donor communications strategies and focus on one key point: we can never thank the donor enough. A simple yet powerful point that is easy to lose sight of."
Sarah M. Loy, Communications Coordinator and Development Associate
Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts
