Temporary Full Time Expungement Attorney

Job Classification: Exempt Employee
Position available for six months and may lead to regular employment

1) Advises individuals requesting expungement whether they are eligible for dismissal, reductions, juvenile sealing, or certificate of rehabilitation;
2) Helps prepare petition forms;
3) Helps prepare fee waivers (depending on county requirements);
4) Help write declarations; and
5) In certain cases provides representation at hearings.

Key Functions
• Handles client interviews and hearings;
• Filing of petitions with the Orange County Courts;
• Researches and prepares pleadings and other legal documents in connection with expungements or post-conviction relief;
• Trains, directs and supervises clinical law students and paralegals;
• Conducts community meetings and attends outreach events;
• Organizes and conducts monthly Saturday clinics, including training and recruiting volunteers for
• monthly clinics;
• Organizes and conducts the annual post-conviction relief fair in collaboration with community partners;
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet the professional duties to clients;
• Collaborates with other attorneys and support staff to determine the best course of action for a client;
• Manages reporting of post-conviction grant(s) with LASOC’s Grantwriter and Compliance Manager; and,
• Participates in activities of community based organizations and Bar Association activities

Wage range: $50,537 - $65,426 per month depending on experience

Requirements: 

• Education/License Required: J.D. and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
• Knowledge of legal principles and their application.
• Knowledge of rules of evidence and the conduct of court proceedings.
• Knowledge of legal research methods.
• Experience in handling expungements, required.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Proficiency in Form Builder, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, etc.) and other software programs.
• Excellent public speaking skills
• Great writing skills
• Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred.
• A basic understanding on immigration law that relates to any of the services provided by the expungement clinic.
