The Maryland Center for Legal Assistance, LLC, (MCLA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Maryland Legal Aid, announces the availability of a supervising attorney position at the Maryland Courts Self Help Center in Annapolis, Maryland.
Job Description: The supervising attorney’s primary responsibility is to manage and supervise legal and administrative staff at the Maryland Courts Self Help Center in Annapolis, Maryland. This includes supervision of and provision of legal assistance to self-represented litigants in connection with civil cases before the Circuit and District Courts of Maryland, including landlord/tenant matters, family law matters (divorce, custody, child support, and guardianship), civil claims, expungement and shielding of records, consumer matters; return of property; domestic violence/peace orders; and foreclosure. Legal services to self-represented litigants will occur via phone calls and live chat assistance, or as requested by the Court. In addition to supervising legal and administrative work, the supervising attorney will collaborate with District and Circuit Court clerks, judges and Administrative Office of the Courts staff to ensure effective and efficient operation of the Maryland Courts Self Help Center. Hours and Location: While this position is primarily located at the Annapolis location of the Maryland Courts Self Help Center, the supervising attorney may be called upon to staff and support the District Court Self-Help Centers in Baltimore City, Frederick, Glen Burnie, Upper Marlboro, and Salisbury. The supervisor’s primary hours are 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, in Annapolis, Maryland.
 

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications: Admitted to the Maryland Bar with at least three or more years of litigation experience in District and/or Circuit Court civil matters. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and management skills required. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to access to justice and the ability to bring energy, ingenuity and compassion to the delivery of high-quality legal services. The successful candidate must also be a flexible, supportive team member with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Candidate must be willing to be on-call for supervisory issues as needed, outside of regularly assigned work hours. Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
