Staff Attorney (Violence Against Women)

Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff attorney to provide legal counsel and courtroom advocacy on behalf of women and children who are victims of domestic violence in an eighteen-county area in Northwest Missouri. Preference is given to applicants with experience or a demonstrated commitment to service in the area of domestic violence or general domestic relations, including Circuit and Juvenile Court matters.  LAWMO is a non-profit organization that provides legal assistance in civil matters to low-income persons. 

Legal Aid is offering a sign-on bonus of $2,000 ($1,000 when an offer is accepted and $1,000 when applicant has completed a successful 6-month period of employment).  The attorney in this position will also be eligible to work from home (remotely) two days a week.  Staff working in this office are eligible for a commute stipend of $100 a month for any staff traveling more than 40 miles to the office.

Responsibilities include representing clients seeking domestic violence orders of protection and related domestic case issues including Custody and Dissolution of Marriage actions.  In addition to courtroom advocacy and hearing preparation, this position entails a grant reporting requirement, which will require working closely with a dedicated paralegal to ensure grant compliance.  The attorney will also conduct outreach with local domestic violence shelters and provide presentations to various community groups in our service area.

Salary:  $48,204 DOE
