Staff Attorney (Legal Assistance to Medical Patients Project— LAMP)
Legal Services of New Jersey, an Edison-based non-profit that provides free civil legal assistance to low income New Jerseyans, seeks a staff attorney to provide legal representation to referred hospital patients through LSNJ’s Medical-Legal Partnership project (LAMP). LAMP’s mission is to address the socio-economic impediments to health faced by referred client-patients through coordinated advocacy by lawyers and medical providers.
LAMP is a collaborative project but staff are also expected to work independently. Training is offered to staff especially in new substantive legal areas and regular case review meetings are held in Edison. We are looking for a hardworking, compassionate and innovative attorney to join our team.
LSNJ offers a positive workplace among colleagues who enjoy and are passionate about their work. We encourage a supportive team work environment, with work-life balance. Benefits include comprehensive health and retirement plans and in-house trainings that offer CLE credit.
LAMP attorneys will practice in a number of areas including the following: special education and guardianship, housing and entitlements (SSI/SSDI, food stamps, TANF and GA), as well as healthcare access (Medicaid and Medicare denials). The project has office space at several hospitals in NJ and the position is based out of Edison, as well as at one or more of these provider facilities. Additionally, LAMP staff provide outreach and education to hospital staff and to families served by those hospitals.
To be considered, send a resume and cover letter describing your interest and related experience, and the states and years of all bar admissions. Please also include two recent legal writing samples. Send all required components to email@example.com. EOE.
