Staff Attorney (Family Law)

Description: 

Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff attorney.  This position is focused primarily on serving victims of domestic violence, with a focus on alleviating the effects of domestic violence.  This will primarily entail representation of clients in seeking orders of protection, as well as representation in child custody cases as applicable, and could also include dissolutions of marriage, guardianships, and juvenile matters.  This is a grant funded position, with outreach and documentation requirements in addition to case work.  The attorney will handle these cases in Buchanan County and seventeen other outlying rural counties.

The duties and responsibilities of this position includes, but is not limited to:  maintaining an active caseload of child custody and protection order cases consistent with grant funding requirements, with additional cases as assigned; providing effective client representation; completing administrative duties consistent with grant funding requirements; undertaking community legal education or outreach activities; participating in training programs designed to increase knowledge and skills development; and other duties and special projects as assigned.

Salary:  Contingent on experience.

Requirements: 

The qualified candidate must have the following:  a Missouri law license; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high quality legal assistance to low income people.  Courtroom experience preferred.
