Staff Attorney - Fair Housing Project

Description: 

Alaska Legal Services Corporation is currently seeking a full-time staff attorney in the Anchorage office, starting as soon as possible, to serve as a complaint analyst for ALSC’s fair housing program. ALSC is a private non-profit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Alaskans through 11 offices throughout the state. The fair housing program works to eliminate illegal housing discrimination and promotes equal access to housing by providing education, outreach, technical assistance, and enforcement opportunities specifically related to federal, state, and local fair housing laws. This position’s duties and responsibilities include: fair housing complaint intake and screening, complaint analysis and referral, client advocacy for the administrative and judicial enforcement of fair housing laws, statewide fair housing hotline call response, technical assistance to attorneys and housing professionals regarding fair housing laws, community outreach and education concerning the availability of fair housing enforcement and testing, and detailed recordkeeping.

Requirements: 

Applicants must be either admitted to practice law in Alaska or admitted to practice in another state and eligible for an Alaska Bar Rule 43 waiver. Information on Bar Rule 43 can be found at http://www.alaskabar.org. Experience in civil rights or fair housing legal work and familiarity with cross-cultural situations desirable. Computer proficiency required (Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Internet and e-mail, and data entry).
