Staff Attorney (Education Law Project)
Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) seeks an Attorney to work in our Education Law Project, to address a broad range of issues that affect education in Kern County. This project provides legal services related to school discipline, truancy, bullying, discrimination, and special education issues.
This project is also focused on addressing language access issues, suspension or expulsion from school, special education access, and discrimination. The Attorney must demonstrate the capacity and ability to maintain a large caseload which may include: Interviewing prospective clients; analyzing their legal problems; rendering legal advice; negotiation with opposing parties and agencies; preparing and submitting documents for clients; representing clients in various phases of litigation; attending community meetings; developing positive relationships with client communities; developing complex litigation; finding solutions to broader client problems through litigation.
