Staff Attorney & Adjunct Clinical Professor

Description:

Staff Attorney and Adjunct Clinical Professor
Land of Lincoln Legal Aid and University of Illinois College of Law
Want to make a difference as an attorney and train the next generation of lawyers?
Land of Lincoln Legal Aid seeks a motivated attorney to join us in working with our
East Central Illinois Medical Legal Partnership (ECIMLP) in conjunction with
Carle and the University of Illinois College of Law.
Through funding provided by the Jerome Mirza Foundation and Carle, Land of
Lincoln and the College of Law are launching a Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic to
train law students to identify and remedy socio-environmental issues that may be
contributing to a patient/client’s poor health outcomes. Poverty increases the level
of stress a person is dealing with on a daily basis; food insecurity and violence
contribute to poor health outcomes; and the issues facing these individuals and
families are often beyond the scope of a medical doctor. The clinic will enable law
students to become part of a team of medical, legal, and social work professionals
working together to increase the ability of the ECIMLP to assist patient/clients
referred by Carle, particularly from the Healthy Beginnings program. The staff
attorney/clinical director will be instrumental in helping students become part of
the team, learn important client engagement and legal skills, and gain experience
handling a variety of legal issues.
Land of Lincoln Legal Aid provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals
in 65 counties in Illinois. We are committed to providing justice for those whose
voices might otherwise not be heard; to assist individuals in advocating for
themselves; and to make positive changes in collaboration with the communities we
serve. Our attorneys provide holistic legal advocacy in partnership with community
organizations, social service agencies, and faith-based groups. For more
information, see https://lincolnlegal.org/

Urbana-Champaign, one of the nation’s top public research universities. Its mission
is to serve as a preeminent site for the study of law, legal institution, and legal
