LEGAL SERVICES FULL TIME STAFF ATTORNEY (ELMIRA, NY)

The Elmira office of Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. ® has an immediate opening for a Staff Attorney. This is a General Practice position, emphasizing Consumer Law, but including the full range of general practice matters handled by the program at the Administrative, Trial Court and Appellate levels. Duties may include representation of eligible clients in various civil matters including Consumer, Landlord/Tenant, Real Property/Foreclosure, Medicaid/Health Care, SSI/Social Security, Welfare, Unemployment Insurance Benefits and other matters within program priorities.
Program: Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. is a not-for-profit law firm which provides civil legal services to low-income clients in a fourteen county area of western New York including the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier region. The Elmira office directly serves residents of the counties of Chemung and Schuyler Counties.
Salary: Salary is dependent on experience and based on a pay scale with annual increments. Entry level salary for a Staff Attorney is $50,000 increasing to $57,500 for an attorney with five years experience. We also provide an excellent package of fringe benefits including health, disability and life insurance as well as generous leave provisions.

Admission to New York State Bar is required and at least two years of experience is preferred, particularly experience with the Courts and agencies in Schuyler and Chemung Counties and with Consumer Law. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to helping poor and disadvantaged people.
