Staff Accountant

Description: 

The Staff Accountant assists the Chief Financial Officer with the financial operations of the organization and supervise any accounting and fiscal personnel.

Essential Job Functions:

1.     Assists the Chief Financial Officer with respect to the financial management of the organization, including development of proposed statewide fiscal policies and systemic solutions to major problems.

2.     Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of funding proposals, financial statement, budgets, reports, and both long-term and short-term financial planning.

3.     Supervises the Accounting Assistant, Financial Assistant and Accounting Clerk.

4.     Oversees or performs work in accounts payable and accounts receivable, cash receipts, account and client fund reconciliation, bank reconciliations, month-end adjustments to the general ledger.

5.     Oversees or performs grant billing and documentation.

6.     Assists the Chief Financial Officer in maintaining financial files. 

7.     Undertakes specific administrative tasks as requested by the Chief Financial Officer.

8.     Assists the Chief Financial Officer in insuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in all aspects of the agency’s financial management system including the development of internal control procedures and accounting protocols.

9.     Assists with the financial training of staff as necessary.

10.    Maintains a good working relationship with all members of the program staff.

11.    Performs such other duties as may reasonably be requested.

12.     Assists the Chief Financial Officer in fulfilling his/her financial and administrative responsibilities to the Board of Directors and various funders.

 

Requirements: 

Job Requirements:

1.     Must have four-year degree in Business Administration or a related field with emphasis in accounting and a minimum of 4 year’s relevant work experience with comparable responsibilities and required skills.

2.     Should possess a broad knowledge of financial management systems, non-profit accounting, budgeting and financial planning.

3.     Should have well-developed administrative skills and experience working in an organization with multiple office sites.

4.     Should have a high energy level and be comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

5.     Should have the ability to get along with diverse personalities and be tactful, mature and flexible.

6.     Should have strong reasoning abilities and informal problem-solving/negotiation skills, sound judgement and be well-organized with good communication skills.

7.     Experience working in a non-profit agency is preferred.
