Children’s Legal Alliance Program
In person/remote hybrid work option available during 2022. Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. (LSEM), a non-profit law firm that provides free legal assistance to people living with low-income/low opportunity, seeks a full-time MSW-level Social Worker to work in its Children’s Legal Alliance (CLA) program. The Social Worker will work closely with CLA staff attorneys to conduct holistic advocacy with children and families in St. Louis City to increase access to educational opportunities and improve educational outcomes for children served by the program.

LSEM advances justice through legal representation, education, and supportive services. We partner with the community to improve lives, promote fairness and create opportunities for those in need. Since 1956, LSEM has provided high-quality civil legal assistance and equal access to justice for low-income people in 21 counties in Missouri. We accomplish our mission through systemic advocacy/impact litigation and individual case work in a wide range of substantive civil areas which are in our priorities, e.g., family law for victims of domestic violence, prevention of homelessness/housing, health, public benefits, consumer, education, disability, community economic development, and immigration. As part of our community education/outreach efforts, LSEM works with over 150 agencies and participates in over 35 task forces/coalitions. LSEM also has a vibrant Volunteer Lawyers Program. Salary & Benefits Information: The salary range for this position is $36,250-$63,550. Specific salary offered to a candidate will be based on their years of experience and education. Excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, a generous time off policy, 403(b) and 401(a) retirement plans, long-term disability and life insurance, employee assistance plan, and flexible spending account. Responsibilities:
- Provide information and referral, crisis intervention, case management and related services to families and unaccompanied youth to increase household stability
- Conduct social assessments, including risk assessments, on new clients entering case load
- Develop case plans and stabilization goals through assessment tools that support client confidence, self-protection and personal ownership
- Research and collaborate with attorneys on evidence-based practices to ensure both the social and legal interventions meet the unique needs of school-aged children
- Assist clients with financial assistance applications and accessing public benefits such as LIHEAP, Food Stamps, and Medicaid as appropriate
- Advocate for clients within the social service delivery system
- Conduct training, education, and outreach within served communities to increase referrals and awareness of education rights
- Maintain case files and client records in accordance with agency and funder requirements
- Assist with grant tracking and reporting
- Attend recurring meetings with community organization and stakeholders
- Assist with other tasks as assigned or needed

Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Master of Social Work or comparable degree preferred
- At least 2 years of experience as a social worker and/or experience working with youth and families highly preferred but not required
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing trauma-informed and healing-centered interventions
- Ability to work collaboratively with others – internally and externally – especially across disciplines
- Strong communication and organizational skills, work ethic, flexibility and teamwork
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn new systems
