Social Worker (Children & Youth)

Description:

The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley advances the rights of under-represented individuals and families in our diverse community through legal services, strategic advocacy, and educational outreach. Now with 90 employees, the Law Foundation is the largest provider of free legal services in the South Bay. Located in downtown San Jose, the Law Foundation is a dynamic and interesting place to work. We pride ourselves on fostering a work environment that is motivating, collaborative and fun, with plenty of opportunities for professional growth. We are working towards a race-conscious legal services practice.

The Law Foundation’s Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY) is seeking to hire a social worker to assist in identifying and addressing the needs and interests of our clients. LACY advances the legal rights of minors in Santa Clara County, empowering them to lead healthy and productive lives. We listen to, advise, and advocate for our clients to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The social worker will work in tandem with different LACY attorneys to identify and address the needs and interests of the clients. The position will require the social worker to assess the suitability for placement and visitation of parents, relatives, and foster care providers. The social worker will be expected to meet with clients in various settings, including home and school environments. The social worker should coordinate with other service providers working on behalf of the minor, including therapists and educators. In certain cases, the social worker may be asked to provide expert opinions or testimony. This is a regular, full-time position reporting directly to the Clinical Social Work Supervisor.

This position will require participation in LACY’s regular team meetings, staff meeting and program development activities including assisting the LACY Directing Attorney and Supervising Attorney. The social worker may be asked to attend community outreach presentations to youth and service providers. Applicant should have an interest in laws pertaining to child advocacy and juvenile dependency.
