Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is, “to promote social change and justice by providing high-quality legal services to the low-income community. GBLA‘s service area is Kern County, California. It is the state’s third-largest county in land area.
GBLA seeks a Senior Paralegal to work under immediate supervision of a licensed attorney. The Sr. Paralegal is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in legal research, document composition, and overall case-handling. May also be required to participate in outreach and community legal education to clients and community groups so as to provide clients or others with general information and assistance with healthcare coverage issues
The candidate we seek will be able to handle significant client contact and is dedicated to working with non-profit public interest organizations. An ability to work independently with minimal supervision, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct research and problem-solve. This individual should also possess strong communication skills (oral/written), coupled with patience and sensitivity with people in crisis situations is required.
Experience working with low-income individuals and families preferred. Qualified candidates must have one of the following: (1.) paralegal certificate, (2.) B.A. or B.S. degree with 1 year experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney or (3.) High School degree with 3 years' experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney.
