Pro Bono Projects Manager

SLS is seeking a goal-oriented, proactive individual to work in a full-time position overseeing a volunteer-staffed live chat service that is a critical component of our self-help information website, CTLawHelp.org. Chat volunteers do not offer legal advice, but help website visitors find information and referrals that can help them to address their legal problems. The successful candidate also will provide assistance maintaining the organization’s pro bono portal in collaboration with the Web and Publications Manager for CTLawHelp.org and SLS Pro Bono Attorney Manager. This person will report to the SLS Pro Bono Manager and work closely with CTLawHelp.org’s Web and Publications Manager. This position is primarily remote with some in-person work required occasionally for meetings, outreach, and recruitment.


Responsibilities • Managing the chat service. • Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, who are primarily law students. • Maintaining and updating training materials. • Reviewing chat transcripts and providing feedback to volunteers on appropriate information and referral resources, as well we best practices in chat. • Configuring chat system software, and contacting software vendor for help with technical issues. • Some evening and weekend work is required when training new volunteers. • Maintaining the pro bono portal. • Reviewing portal content, links, and design; recommending necessary updates and enhancements in a timely manner. • Identifying useful site performance metrics; collecting, tracking, recording, compiling, analyzing, and reporting site usage data. • Discussing, analyzing, reviewing, and resolving usability issues under the supervision of the Web and Publications Manager and Pro Bono Attorney Manager. • Communicating with site visitors and users regarding site registration, onboarding partner organizations, and site updates. • Performing other related duties as assigned. • Assisting with special pro bono projects as needed.

Requirements: 
Skills and Qualifications  It is understood that the candidates may not possess all of these qualifications.  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other related software.  • Strong technical skills. Previous experience with web content management systems a big plus.  • Experience with recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers or staff.  • Experience in customer service work.  • Desire to render empathetic and patient help to people in need. Familiarity with or willingness to learn the challenges facing people with low income, such as housing, family, public benefits, and employment issues.  • Familiarity with running and analyzing reports.  • Multi-tasking skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.  • Flexibility of hours and location to work virtually, including occasional evening hours for training volunteers.  • Background in legal issues, librarianship, or social work a plus, but not required.  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus, but not required.
