Pro Bono Manager
Summary: Legal Aid of the Bluegrass seeks a full-time Pro Bono Manager. The Pro Bono Manager will plan, implement and manage all aspects of LABG’s Pro Bono Program. This includes engaging with the legal community, recruitment of volunteer attorneys, directing our CLE program “Legal Aid University”, and mentoring new volunteers. The position will lead our cross engagement with other volunteer legal programs throughout the state. Legal Aid of the Bluegrass is a dynamic civil legal aid provider seeking public interest minded attorneys to help us reach our goal of alleviating the profound and brutal effect of poverty on people’s lives. Location:
The Pro Bono Manager position can work from any of our offices. There are offices in Covington, Lexington, Morehead, and Ashland.
Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Advocacy Director, the Pro Bono Manager will insure that LABG’s Pro Bono/ PAI program operates in conformity with ABA Standards for Programs Providing Civil Pro Bono Legal Services to Persons of Limited Means and with LABG’s annual PAI Plan. The Pro Bono Manager will:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive pro bono recruitment and development plan, in collaboration with staff and pro bono advisory board members
- Work with law firms and individual lawyers throughout LABG’s service territory developing relationships that contribute to our pro bono strategies and financial development strategies
- Create a continuing education program and mentorship program for volunteer attorneys and law students
- Develop and manage benchmarks and metrics to ensure goals are met or exceeded
- Act as LABG’s lead liaison with other Pro Bono Coordinators & Volunteer recruitment initiatives throughout the Commonwealth
- Create and sustain strong working partnerships with LABG’s Leadership & Management teams to raise LABG’s pro bono program to new heights!
- Work with private attorneys as required facilitating the delivery of legal services to eligible clients through the private bar.
- Maintain accurate and complete files and records, and prepare timely and complete forms and records required for pro bono services and/or related administrative tasks.
- Enter accurate data into LABG’s electronic case management system.
- Interact with clients, other staff members, service providers, and court and administrative officials in a professional, appropriate, collegial, and cooperative manner.
- Identify and pursue individual training needs and work with Program Administration to address those needs.
- Actively participate in staff and planning meetings, task forces, and trainings if required.
- Maintain time records of all work related activities and enter accurate data on a timely basis into LABG’s electronic case management system
Requirements, Skill & Abilities include:
- Must hold a Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited School of Law.
- Current standing as a licensed attorney in Kentucky is not required, but desired
- Ability to use office and computer technology, including case management and word processing software.
- Ability to balance pro bono recruitment and training with other administrative responsibilities.
- Must be able to travel between LABG’s four office locations and within our 33 county service region
