LOCATION: South Los Angeles Community Office*
SALARY: $40,000 to $43,681/ annual DOE with excellent benefits

The Housing and Communities Workgroup prevents unfair displacement and preserves and expands affordable housing. It also defends the rights of unhoused individuals and families and provides legal support to community-based organizations seeking to build healthy, economically vibrant communities.

The Project: The Mobile Home Advocacy Collaborative provides comprehensive legal assistance to vulnerable mobile
homeowners at risk of losing their housing. In collaboration with other legal service providers, LAFLA provides representation on issues arising out of landlord/tenant disputes and/or unlawful detainer actions under the Mobile Home Residency Law Act (and provide virtual community education and know your rights workshops.

LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Paralegal.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Organize, review and analyze high volumes of materials in a variety of media;
• Interview clients;
• Assist with discovery and prepare declarations and memoranda;
• Conduct research;
• Work effectively as part of a team, including pro bono and staff attorneys, support staff, students and partner organizations; and
• Support facilitation of community education and know your rights programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A four (4) year degree or Paralegal Certificate;
• One (1) year relevant work experience preferred;
• Experience providing assistance to low-income or homeless individuals, including interviewing;
• Some knowledge of litigation and/or housing law preferred;
• Self-motivated, takes initiative, ability to learn quickly;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Organized and detail-oriented;
• Adept in the use of technology; and
• Ability to be flexible in job duties.
