Paralegal - Consumer Protection Unit
Legal Aid seeks a full-time paralegal to assist attorneys in the Consumer Protection Unit in Kansas City, Missouri. This position will assist a full-time staff attorney with mortgage counseling, loss mitigation options, bankruptcy, and State Assistance for Housing Relief (SAFHR) applications for homeowners with the goal of preventing foreclosures. Although housed in our Central Office, the paralegal will assist in serving clients and conducting outreach throughout our 40-county service area. This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule (part in-office, part remote) after initial training and probationary period.
This position interviews applicants for legal services and presents potential cases to the team’s attorneys for review; collects financial and other information or documentation necessary to provide representation; prepares loss mitigation packets and SAFHR applications for homeowners; and generally provides support for all case work as needed. This paralegal will have substantial duties related to outreach, grant compliance and reporting. Paralegals also provide clerical support to the attorneys, as needed, including data entry, filing, mailing, and preparation of letters, copies and other legal documents and forms, and performs all other duties as assigned. Some local travel may be required.

Pay: $21.79/hr ($42,500.00/yr) - $30.77/hr ($60,000.00/yr) DOE

Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong desire to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal services to clients with limited means and/or Limited English Proficiency. Ideally, candidates will have a four-year degree or paralegal certificate, but relevant experience may be substituted. Experience in one-on-one interaction with clients over the phone and in-person is strongly preferred.
