Paralegal (Consumer Protection Unit)
Legal Aid seeks a full-time paralegal to assist attorneys in the Consumer Protection Unit at Central Office in Kansas City, Missouri. The paralegal will assist with our CARES Act hotline related to economic impact payments and other applications for legal services in the consumer protection context.
This position interviews applicants for legal services and presents potential cases to the team’s attorneys for review; collects financial and other information or documentation necessary to provide representation; investigates and assists with discovery for trial preparation; assists with file maintenance; and generally provides support for all case work as needed. The paralegal also assists with all aspects of grant applications and reporting and provides clerical support to the attorneys as needed, including data entry, filing, mail runs, and preparation of letters, copies and other legal documents and forms, and performs all other duties, as assigned. Some local travel may be required.

Salary: $17.71/hour plus, DOE.

Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong desire to assist in the delivery of high-qualify legal services to clients with limited means and/or Limited English Proficiency. Ideally, candidates will have a four-year degree or paralegal certificate, but relevant experience may be substituted. A background in tax or financial services and/or fluency in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
