Outreach Project Coordinator

Description: 

The Outreach Project Coordinator will work in coordination with 603 Legal Aid (603 LA) staff to develop, support, and execute outreach project initiatives in several communities including faith-based organizations and multicultural communities. This outreach project is designed to leverage available state, federal, and local benefits to increase access to the basic necessities of life for low-income individuals. It will focus particularly on the federal benefits available through the Internal Revenue Code, as well as various rental and home ownership programs designed to help secure and maintain adequate housing. The project is also designed to increase awareness in low-income communities about the wide range of civil legal services 603 LA can provide.

Those most in need are often least able to access available benefits, and this project aims to achieve greater equity in benefit distribution by targeting hard-to-reach populations by geographic area and racial, ethnic, and linguistic identity. Some of the outreach will include education on topics of particular concern to these communities, such as federal tax rights and responsibilities and housing benefits, often in conjunction with legal clinics hosted by community partners.

This is a two-year grant-funded position that involves frequent in-state travel.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, faith-based entities, workshops, appearances, and other  communication opportunities;
  • Prepare an annual calendar for community outreach activities;
  • Establish new and nurture old relationships with collaborative partners;
  • Schedule regular outreach exhibitions in the community designed to educate employees on community responsibility;
  • Schedule legal clinics in collaboration with community partners;
  • Teach classes on basic legal topics, such as our federal tax system and housing rights and benefits;
  • Prepare accurate records and reports on outreach goals;
  • Contact community organizations serving low-income communities of color and 603 LA’s target populations, explaining the        mission and services;
  • Meet regularly with outreach project partners to give updates and plan outreach;
  • Conduct phone intake for 603 LA and
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned or required.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a decentralized statewide law firm and work both independently and in collaboration with others;
  • Ability to apply creative approaches to problem-solving; flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments;
  • Technical proficiency with standard office equipment;
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and online office tools and
  • Ability to travel frequently.

 

Salary/Benefits:
This position is full-time (37.5 hours weekly) and considered non-exempt (hourly) for the purpose of federal wage/hour law. Salary will depend on experience and is expected to range from $23.00 to $25.64 per hour, plus benefits package that includes health insurance, life and disability insurance, a 403(b) Retirement program, and generous paid time off.

Requirements: 
  • Three-to-four years of professional experience as an outreach coordinator, paralegal, or housing advocate, provided that an additional degree from an accredited institution may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis;
  • Fluency or proficiency in another language prevalent in 603 LA’s client community (strongly preferred);
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to best fulfill the goals of the outreach project;
  • Cultural literacy and humility in working with low-income clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and limited English proficiency and
  • A demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice and providing high quality legal assistance to low-income people of New Hampshire.
