Outreach and Intake Specialist
Legal Services of New Jersey, a non-profit organization that provides free civil legal assistance to people living in poverty has two part time, temporary opportunities for outreach/intake specialists to assist our legal staff in educating and connecting families with nutrition assistance benefits and other programs. These positions are temporary – approximately 6-9 months, with a possibility for extension based on interest and grant funding.
The outreach and intake specialists will work as part of a team of advocates working to educate low-income families, especially immigrant families, about the availability of SNAP and WIC benefits, working with area schools and other community partners. Responsibilities will include assisting with planning outreach events in and around K-12 schools; assisting families at outreach events by providing information and direction; and conducting online and in person interviews and intakes for LSNJ’s legal services.

These positions will involve visits to outreach sites, which may involve afternoon and evenings. Other work may be remote and at LSNJ’s offices in Edison, depending on the needs of the project. Work schedules may vary and can be from 12 to 19 hours per week.
Applicants must be available for onsite activities in at least one of the outreach regions – southwest, central, and northwest NJ and have their own transportation. Proficiency in Spanish or another language is strongly preferred, as is experience working with low income and/or immigrant populations.
