LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Managing Attorney.

Requirements: 
Qualifications:

• Active membership in the California State Bar;
• Demonstrated knowledge of poverty law (across substantive areas) and community legal needs;
• Experience supervising staff and interacting with clients;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail;
• Knowledge of principles of administration and supervision;
• Previous experience in a legal services program preferred;
• Knowledge of, and comfort with, intake systems and technology;
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff effectively at all levels;
• Ability to travel to LAFLA’s five offices; and
• Willingness to work beyond a minimum 7.0-hour workday, including evening and weekend meetings and events, and work weeks in excess of 35 hours when caseload or other obligations so necessitate.

Examples of Duties:

• Supervise and provide regular training for intake staff in LAFLA’s five offices;
• Supervise managers of the reception and secretarial staff;
• Directly supervise intake paralegals;
• Oversee all aspects of screening applications for legal assistance;
• Supervise the delivery of all advice and counsel and limited services provided by intake paralegals and screeners in all substantive areas;
• Supervise workflow between intake paralegals, receptionists, and secretaries;
• Oversee online & electronic intake programs;
• Maintain call flow charts, call routing, intake and screening scripts for each area of law, sample advice letters, call center protocols, and staff training manuals;
• Work closely with Managing Attorneys team;
• Hold regular team meetings and facilitate intake meetings with other workgroups;
• Ensure timely and appropriate responses to incoming requests for legal assistance;
• With Legal Tech, explore new models for service delivery utilizing technology;
• Work closely with the Director of Litigation & Policy and other Managing Attorneys to ensure the Foundation’s mission is being met; and
• Ensure that legal services provided are consistent with LAFLA’s priorities, policies, and procedures and that they maximize office resources to provide the highest quality client service.
