Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Managing Attorney for our Central Office in Kansas City, which primarily serves Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Executive Director and assists them in all administrative functions as assigned; handles cases and other client advocacy; and is responsible for the oversight of all supervising attorneys at Central Office.
Additional responsibilities and duties for this position include, but are not limited to: performing administrative duties related to supervising and evaluating supervising attorneys in the Central Office; supervising and evaluating all legal work performed by supervising attorneys in the Central Office utilizing appropriate case review procedures to ensure the quality of all legal work; monitoring and assuring Central Office’s compliance with LSC regulations, case acceptance policies, program priorities and other policies as established and approved by the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees; designing and implementing continued outreach and community legal education activities in the Central office’s service area to assure the community access to Legal Aid services; overseeing the Central Office’s intake of new cases, including management of intake staff, efficient intake practices, and trends in case types; handling client grievances in the Central office; serving on the LAWMO Executive Leadership Committee and the LAWMO Personnel Committee; devoting time to case handling and other advocacy on behalf of clients; and all other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Salary: $66,606 + DOE

The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications: has obtained a law degree; is licensed to practice law in Missouri; has legal practitioner experience with a preference for practice in poverty and/or civil rights law; significant litigation, administrative, and managerial experience is preferred. This individual should also have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. A good sense of humor is a plus.
