Impact Litigation Staff Attorney

JOB SUMMARY: The Impact Litigation Staff Attorney (full-time, salaried) will provide civil legal representation to low-income individuals in Texas. The Staff Attorney is responsible for the attorney's caseload and reports to the Impact Litigation Managing Attorney.

This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week of service.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • D. degree and licensure by the Supreme Court of Texas.
  • Readiness to litigate in at least one of the following areas: Public Benefits, Family Law, Consumer
  • Record of consistent observance of office
  • History of consistent professionalism and courtesy at the highest level when communicating (verbally and via email) and when working with other office staff, clients, other Legal Aid programs, governmental and funding entities, and the

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide high-quality legal assistance to eligible
  • Identify issues that, if favorably resolved, will improve the lives of many low-income individuals, or that will lead to systemic improvements in services to low-income
  • Execute intake interviews, confirm eligibility for services and check for conflicts of interest.
  • Analyze legal problems, and conduct legal research and factual investigation as needed to perform the tasks undertaken on behalf of eligible clients.
  • Communicate with third parties on behalf of clients to resolve legal problems.
  • Prepare for, attend, and conduct hearings and trials.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the law and legal system, especially in areas that impact low-income individuals.
  • Comply with all regulations, grant requirements, and internal operating and personnel
  • Promptly provide all information needed/requested for TLSC
  • Demonstrate proficiency with TLSC's case management system, Adobe and Microsoft Office products and social media tools and the ability to learn new technologies to carry out job
  • Embrace and support TLSC's overall mission, standards, policies, and confidentiality
  • Ensure that all client, project, and computer files maintained in an orderly
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards as a member of the State Bar and stay current with updates and changes to the Adhere to the ABA Standards for Civil Legal Services Providers.

  • Ensure that all appointments and deadlines calendared and timely executed with sufficient time dedicated for management approval of legal
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior management and the VLAP Managing

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

This work is professional and requires the following activities unless a reasonable accommodation is needed:

  • Sitting for long periods of time, occasional bending, squatting kneeling, and good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions
  • Occasional lifting of files, supplies, and office equipment
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy and to utilize office software and case management
