Bay Area Legal Aid Grants Officer - Oakland, CA

Organization: Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) ensures fairness in the civil justice system for the most vulnerable members of our community. From Silicon Valley to Napa Valley, we help clients protect their livelihoods, their health, and their families. Our clients include the working poor, families with children, foster youth, seniors, immigrants, veterans, and persons with disabilities. Through our regional county offices, our mobile advocacy clinics, and our nationally-recognized Legal Advice Line, BayLegal prevents domestic violence and sexual assault, increases economic stability, protects consumers, expands access to healthcare, and prevents homelessness. Position: BayLegal is seeking an experienced, culturally sensitive Grants Officer with a strong commitment to social justice, to be a member of our Grants & Contracts Team, at our Oakland office. Responsibilities: Maintain a portfolio of grants and contracts, including federal, state and local cost reimbursable grants, as well as foundation and corporate grants; assist with developing new proposals –researching new funding prospects and working with program staff and collaborative partners to prepare and submit applications for new and renewal funding; monitor and assure grant and contract compliance, including working with program staff, collaborative partners and finance team to: monitor project deliverables and spending; develop and submit timely narrative reports and invoicing; process contracts; coordinate and attend site visits with funders and meeting any additional funder requirements; establish, build, and maintain good relationships with funder contacts; work closely with BayLegal's Finance Department to develop and modify grant budgets, ensure timely submission of invoices, monitor grant spending, and ensure timely and complete communication on all grant related issues; maintain grants and contracts tracking system, records, files, and databases (Salesforce); and assist the Director of Grants & Contracts and Executive Director with projects related to the strategic development of institutional funding support

Experience and Education: • Has a minimum of three (3) years of experience prospecting and evaluating grant opportunities, submitting grant applications, and managing a portfolio of grants, including government (federal, state and/or local) cost reimbursement grants or contracts and foundation grants. • Is passionate about BayLegal's mission and possesses an ability to understand and enthusiastically articulate the goals and vision of a multi-disciplined poverty law firm • Possesses a strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision • Possesses strong analytical skills and experience working with budgets and programmatic data • Exhibits excellent writing, editing, and proof reading skills and is very detail-oriented • Demonstrates the ability to be entrusted with sensitive information and conduct daily activities with the utmost professionalism and integrity • Exhibits excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills • Is a creative problem solver • Remains calm under pressure and works well as a dedicated member of a dynamic team • Is experienced using fundraising software and understands the value of a data-driven fundraising process. Experience with Salesforce is preferred • Demonstrates strong relationship building and management skills
