General Legal Services Attorney

Description:

Pine Tree Legal Assistance is hiring a General Legal Services Attorney in our Augusta Office. This is a litigation position primarily focused on representation within the four counties served by the Augusta office (Lincoln, Knox, Kennebec and Somerset). Fifty percent of the attorney’s time will focus on consumer issues supported with the AG Consumer grant (and time records should support that allocation), which may include cases for clients outside the Augusta service area. The remaining time will be used to address housing and administrative advocacy in public benefits, or other general legal services issues of significance to the client community.  The attorney should expect to be in court on a regular basis and to handle a high volume of cases (which is expected to require regular travel as the Courts reopen in 2021).  All Pine Tree staff are responsible for maintaining their client files and meeting other administrative requirements of their positions.  The Augusta staff attorney must also work effectively with local staff and colleagues around the State on issues specific to the handling of individual case matters and be responsive to grant and caseload expectations for the office.  In addition, the Augusta staff attorney shares responsibility with colleagues and Central staff for community relations/training/outreach, development of client education materials and other program resources, and support of external activities that contribute to Pine Tree’s local reputation for excellent legal work and success in developing new funding partnerships. This position is funded through December 2021. The full job description is available on request

The attorney must be admitted to the Maine bar or eligible to practice law in Maine under MRCP 89(c). Prior litigation experience is required for this position.
