Family Law Attorney

Description: 

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) seeks a Family Law Staff Attorney for its Coordinated Attorney Team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, energetic, culturally competent attorney with the ability to work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with compassion and patience.
Position: Available Immediately
Compensation: Salary $54,165 - Commensurate with experience. Excellent Benefits which include: choice of medical, dental, vision; life and disability insurance plans; 125 plan; 403(b) with employer contribution, loan reimbursement, bilingual pay supplement, sick and vacation pay, and 13 employer-paid holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities: The family law staff attorney will:
• Provide legal services to low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault including: representing survivors in restraining order hearings and other family law proceedings.
• Collaborate closely with social services agencies to assess the legal needs of the community. • Participate in public policy advocacy, community education, and outreach activities to effect policy and systems changes that benefit survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Frequent travel to other NLSLA branch offices, courts, government agencies, shelters and community-based organizations throughout southern California is required.

Requirements: 

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have/be:
• Licensed and eligible to practice law in California.
• Prior experience serving low-income individuals and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Experience working with trauma-informed approaches
• Excellent communication (oral, written, listening) skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Mandarin is strongly preferred
