Domestic Violence Supervising Staff Attorney
Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is, “to promote social change and justice by providing high-quality legal services to the low-income community. “ GBLA‘s service area is Kern County, California. It is the state’s third-largest county in land area. GBLA seeks an attorney to provide holistic legal representation to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and /or stalking in matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence. Holistic representation goes beyond a victim’s need for a protection order and includes representation in other proceedings directly related to the client’s experience of violence which is likely to increase victim’s safety and security.
Attorney must be an active member of the California Bar with thorough knowledge and experience in family law with emphasis in sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. The attorney applicant must have excellent analytical, organizational and writing skills; strong oral and written communication skills; strong litigation skills in California courts; demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy; high degree of initiative and willingness to work collaboratively with others; demonstrated ability to supervise and provide leadership; ability to travel throughout the county; and bilingual capacity in Spanish is strongly preferred
