Domestic Violence Supervising Attorney
Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is, “to promote social change and justice by providing high-quality legal services to the low-income community”. GBLA‘s service area is Kern County, California. It is the state’s third-largest county in land area: GBLA seeks an attorney to provide holistic legal representation to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and /or stalking in matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence. Holistic representation goes beyond a victim’s need for a protection order and includes representation in other proceedings directly related to the client’s experience of violence which is likely to increase victim’s safety and security.
Ability to supervise and/or work with legal par professionals as assigned; maintain relationships with other programs and agencies and attend appropriate meetings to further the program and funder expectations. strong litigation skills in California courts; demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy; high degree of initiative and willingness to work collaboratively with others; demonstrated ability to supervise and provide leadership; ability to travel throughout the county; and bilingual capacity in Spanish is strongly preferred.
