Project Manager – Disaster Legal Services

  Any Northern New Mexico office (Taos, Las Vegas or Santa Fe)

 

New Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) provides civil legal services to low income New Mexicans for a variety of legal issues including domestic violence/family law, consumer protection, housing, and benefits.  NMLA has locations throughout the state including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Gallup, Roswell, Silver City, Clovis, Hobbs, Las Vegas, Taos, and Santa Ana.

NMLA is seeking a Project Manager who will lead our new Disaster Legal Services program. This includes: providing civil legal services in the federally declared disaster areas of Northern New Mexico. The position can be based out of the NMLA office in Taos, Las Vegas or Santa Fe but will require travel throughout Northern New Mexico.

The Project manager will report to the Deputy Director.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage day-to-day operations of large, complex Disaster Legal Services program through the entire delivery process of civil legal services and community outreach including the coordination of public facing activities such as pro se legal clinics, outreach events and interaction with community partners.
  • Assist in Disaster Legal Services program priorities, processes and general grant development.
  • Serve as the direct interface with NMLA staff, clients; and state/local government agencies, and other community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate New Mexico Legal Aid’s y priorities related to Northern New Mexico fire disasters and facilitate the accurate delivery of grant funding while completing grant objectives.
  • Lead, coordinate, and evaluate performance of all project staff.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all applicable program policies, requirements, procedures, guidelines; and shall possess knowledge of regulatory and statutory compliance requirements for the Legal Services Corporation and similar Disaster Legal Services programs/projects. This may include familiarity with local, state and federal assistance programs such as FEMA.

The ideal candidate will be a proven Project Manager (preference for someone familiar with disaster projects) with a track record of superior execution and growth and will be responsible for ensuring that programs are positioned to optimize disaster grant resource allocation, build strong solutions to impacted areas, and provide strong risk management.   Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4+ year of professional experience
  • 5+ years of disaster project management experience (or similar) including program start-up through implementation and closeout
  • 2+ years experience in the rural community work.
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in program execution, client relationships, and profitability.
  • Proven track record of leading a team and accomplishing successful business results
  • Familiarity with emergency planning, mitigation planning and using grants management systems. 
  • Demonstrated success managing complex cross-functional teams of professionals to achieve high levels of production, meet tight deadlines, and deliver compliant, quality work products.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, emotional intelligence, critical thinking skills, and integrity and ethics.
  • Team player with the demonstrated ability to build organizational capability, motivate teaming partners/staff to ensure high levels of engagement, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and online office communication.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with legal professionals preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
