CLS is currently searching for a service-minded, mission driven individual to fill the following position:

Director of Pro Bono Services

OVERVIEW 

The Director of Pro Bono Services will work in collaboration with the Chief Program Officer, management team, staff, and the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic vision and plan to strengthen and expand pro bono support from lawyers, other professionals, private law firms, law schools, corporations, and other partners.  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Create, guide, and supervise, in collaboration with the Chief Program Officer, the strategic direction of CLS’s pro bono program. 
  2. Oversee the implementation of strategies, in collaboration with program staff, to engage, train and support pro bono attorneys and other volunteers, including law students, in support of CLS’s programs.  
  3. Oversee pro bono volunteer database and case management system. Establish protocols for case/volunteer recruitment, retention, status reports and feedback from clients and pro bono partners  
  4. Supervise the Manager of Pro Bono Development who is responsible for all aspects of the pro bono attorney program. Provide guidance and feedback on plans to recruit, train, engage and retain pro bono attorneys to expand the reach of CLS’ legal assistance. 
  5. Supervise the Manager of Pro Bono Services who is responsible for all aspects of pro bono client communication, scheduling, follow up and case management system updates as required for the successful execution of direct referrals, workshops, clinics, and presentations offered though the pro bono program. 
  6. Work with program staff to support and problem-solve ongoing pro bono involvement in each of the direct legal services programs.  
  7. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with client groups, communities served, private bar, corporations, CLS board members, volunteers, law schools, and other partner organizations. Support program staff to do the same.  
  8. Work with staff to align pro bono communications and law firm fund development strategies within program and organizational priorities. Assist in the preparation of program and organization marketing materials, fundraising proposals, appeals and reports.  
  9. Represent CLS at public events, donor/foundation events, and across various media platforms.  
  10. Share leadership responsibilities with the management team to further CLS’ short and long-term goals and contribute to additional projects as assigned by the Chief Program Officer. 
  11. Develop the annual PAI plan in collaboration with program staff and Chief Program Officer  
  12. Develop and reviews annually the pro bono strategic plan. 
  13. Extract, review, and analyze data points to determine effectiveness of the strategic plan and the pro bono program.  Provide data to all interested parties on the impact of the CLS pro bono program as needed. 
  14. Coordinate efforts to support partner activities that require volunteer support. 

REQUIREMENTS

2.  Background and Experience  

  1. Juris Doctorate with minimum of 5 years of experience in the practice of law. |
  2. Must be licensed and admitted in good standing to practice law in the State of Florida.  
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience working with low-income and/or vulnerable clients and communities on civil legal matters.  
  4. Proven experience as a supervisor or relevant role.  
  5. Demonstrated project management and strategic planning skills, preferred. 
  6. Highly polished presentation and organizational skills and the ability to represent CLS effectively and consistently at public events and in various media platforms.  
  7. Must possess excellent legal and community partnership skills and be computer literate (Microsoft Office 365).  
  8. Ability to perform duties and attend meetings and/or other functions throughout 12 county service area.  
  9. Valid Florida automobile license, use of own auto, and proof of insurance necessary to travel on behalf of CLS; available to work some weekends and evenings.  

3.  Physical Requirements 

a. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
b.  Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
