LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Client Access and Compliance.

Requirements: 
Qualifications:

• Active membership in the California State Bar;
• Demonstrated knowledge of poverty law (across substantive areas) and community legal needs;
• Three years’ experience supervising staff and interacting with clients required;
• Prior experience conducting program compliance reviews and compliance training required;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail;
• Knowledge of principles of administration and supervision;
• Previous experience in a legal services program preferred;
• Knowledge of, and comfort with, intake systems and technology;
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff effectively at all levels; and
• Ability to travel to LAFLA’s five offices.

Examples of Duties:

• Supervise the Client Intake Managing and Supervising Attorney and Support Services Workgroup Manager to ensure consistent implementation of intake workflows and support services;
• Ensure that current intake workflows meet client and staff needs, align with grant deliverables, and in coordination with the other legal Directors, anticipate and prepare for community trends;
• Build and maintain client-centered clinic systems that promote client-friendly and accessible registration processes and efficient internal clinic workflows processes;
• Ensure that all clinic staff/volunteers have the training and resources needed to provide high-quality legal services (e.g., develop and maintain “clinic-in-a-box” tailored for each clinic opportunity with input from MA team);
• Build and review LegalServer reports to assess gaps in services for particular client communities and to assess whether services are accessible to clients with unique needs (i.e., BIPOC clients, clients with disabilities, clients whose preferred language is other-than-English;
• Develop and implement client satisfaction & needs assessment tools; work with LAFLA stakeholders to target outreach to underserved communities;
• Develop staff-facing tools and policies that empower staff to communicate using plain language, to practice trauma-informed advocacy, to understand and ameliorate the effects of implicit biases;
• Develop and standardize plain language and accessible community education materials in various formats;
• Assist with maintaining LAFLA’s various advocacy manuals, client forms, and case management policies;
• Work closely with the Managing Attorneys, Director of Housing Justice, Director of Community and Economic Justice, Director of Racial Justice and Equity, and Special Counsel on Language Justice to ensure LAFLA’s mission is being met;
• Supervise compliance audits, reports, and trainings by preparing for, monitoring, and evaluating LAFLA’s compliance with LSC, LAFLA, and other regulations and policies; develop practices and systems that make case closing and audits more efficient for managing attorneys; and
• Fostering a culture of compliance by leading compliance education programming, and developing and delivering comprehensive, innovative, and highly-interactive compliance education programs that reinforce staff knowledge of, and adherence to, compliance.
