Development Assistant

Description: 

The Administrator II classification is specific to the administrative duties which are required in the operation of a large program office and/or project.  Specific job descriptions include the following:

            Development Assistant.       

            The Development Assistant is directly responsible to the TRLA Development Director and works closely with the Development Director, development staff, and project directors of the projects to which s/he is assigned to ensure coordination of activities.  Duties include the following:

  1. Communications
  1. With guidance from the Development Director, coordinate organization’s external communications efforts to raise awareness, goodwill and support for the organization and projects to which assigned.  Activities will include:
    1. Media: develop and maintain up-to-date media contacts lists; write and place press releases and other news about the organization and its projects in various media throughout the 68-county service area;
    2. Publications: work with designer and printer to coordinate production of recurring publications and update other publications as necessary;
    3. Special events: assume primary responsibility for planning, organizing, and administering public events relating to the organization and the projects to which assigned;
    4. Direct mail: coordinate mailings to current and potential supporters; mailings will include informational updates, appeals for support, thank-you letters, and others
  2. Collect and maintain orderly physical and electronic files on client stories, staff achievements, and other newsworthy organizational happenings 

 

2.  Fundraising

  1. Assist Development Director with implementation of Private Bar Campaigns.  Activities will include:
    1. Coordinate meetings with members of Advisory Councils;
    2. Work with development staff and Advisory Councils to plan and implement Campaign-related events
    3. Coordinate correspondence with Advisory Council members and Campaign donors
  2. Research and maintain orderly physical and electronic files and profiles on current and potential new grants and donors, including foundations, corporations, and others
  3. Assist with editing, writing, and production of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and appeals as assigned by Development Director
  4. Assist with other fundraising related activities as needed

 

3.  Systems and reporting

a.       As directed by Development Director, work with Grants Manager, development staff and project staff to coordinate and prepare funding reports required by grantors

b.      Update Development Director and project directors on progress of communications, fundraising, and reporting activities

c.       Enter and maintain contact information in development database for past, current, and potential donors

d.      Provide support to the Development Director as needed

 

Requirements: 

Qualifications

 

- Bachelor of Art’s degree in relevant field

- Proficient with PC computing, Microsoft Office applications, and Internet research.

- Some communications or development experience preferred

- Strong attention to detail and time management skills

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

- Comfortable working cooperatively as a member of a team

- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage concurrent activities in a fast-paced environment

- Self-starter

- Professional demeanor

-Ability to travel, including out of town travel
