Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (Legal Services) is a nonprofit law firm providing free, quality civil legal services. Legal Services advances justice through legal representation, education, and supportive services. We partner with the community to improve lives, promote fairness, and create opportunities for those in need.   The Crisis Intervention Specialist reduces barriers to accessing legal services for survivors of domestic violence through outreach at the St. Louis County Circuit Court and through trauma-informed intakes for order of protection, divorce, custody, and paternity cases. During outreach and intakes, they will offer crisis intervention services, safety planning, legal information, and referrals.   Lasting Solutions is co-managed by an attorney and a social worker and has an emphasis on working together as an interdisciplinary team towards holistic advocacy.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently conduct outreach and perform on-site intakes at the St. Louis County Circuit Court
  • Work with LSEM’s Advocacy and Referral Team to complete Order of Protection intakes for LSEM’s entire service area, as well as accompanying family law matters.
  • Offer direct support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence through safety planning, crisis intervention and connection to emergency resources as requested.
  • Once a client is deemed eligible, help prepare the case for representation, which includes gathering client documents and participating in the assignment of cases to attorneys. 
  • Oversee the program’s response to the client and follow up with appropriate assistance when clients are not assigned an attorney.
  • Act as the program’s liaison with community partners by receiving formal and informal referrals and represent the agency in community coalitions.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to connect and work with low-income clients and community stakeholders
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, work ethic, flexibility, and teamwork
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn new systems
  • Open to creative and innovative ways of fulfilling the legal aid mission

Salary & Benefits Information:
The salary range for this position is $40,000-$59,200. Specific salary offered to a candidate will be based on their years of experience and qualifications. We offer excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, a generous time off policy (starting at 4 weeks per year), 12 weeks paid parental leave, 403(b) and 401(a) retirement plans, long-term disability and life insurance, employee assistance plan, and flexible spending account.
