Communications Associate (Temporary Part-Time, Nov-February)

Description:

The Public Interest Law Center is seeking a temporary part-time communications associate to assist in increasing visibility for the Law Center’s work and supporting the core mission of the organization—advancing the civil, social, and economic rights of communities in the Philadelphia region facing discrimination, inequality, and poverty--through strategic communications.

This associate will help maintain communication capacity during the fair school funding trial. The position will predominantly focus on communications support for other areas of the Law Center’s work. These may include cases and projects addressing gun violence, protecting the right to vote, or helping to ensure access to affordable and healthy housing.

The associate will assist in media relations, support staff in communication and media needs as they come up, update the organization’s website and social media feeds, and communicate regularly with Law Center supporters under the supervision of the Law Center’s Communications Manager. The position will run from November to mid-February.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Communications Manager to plan and execute communications strategies for cases and projects.
  • Draft and disseminate press releases and media advisories.
  • Assist staff in conceptualizing and drafting op-eds and other public communications.
  • Help maintain the Law Center’s social media feeds.
  • Publicize Law Center events.
  • Maintain the Law Center’s email communications program, including monthly newsletters and periodic updates to supporters.
  • Assist the development team in drafting narrative and fundraising materials as needed.
  • Keep the Law Center’s website up-to-date.
  • Track communications statistics, press contacts, and press coverage.

Compensation

This is a contract position without benefits. Applicant may work remotely but knowledge and familiarity of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania is strongly preferred. Compensation will be $20/hour. While hours will depend on organizational need, a candidate should expect to work approximately 20 hours per week.
