Communications and Social Media Associate

Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, Inc. (CLS) is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, highly skilled, and mission-driven social media and digital communications expert to become our next Communications and Social Media Associate.

CLS is a nationally recognized legal services program dedicated to fighting poverty, challenging systems that perpetuate injustice, and changing lives though cutting-edge advocacy and exceptional legal representation. CLS helps people when they face the threat of losing their homes, incomes, health care, and even their families. CLS staff provide a full range of legal services, from individual representation to administrative advocacy to class action litigation, as well as community education and social work. CLS has been providing excellent, free legal services to low-income Philadelphians since 1966.

As our Communications and Social Media Associate, you will take the lead on managing our social media channels, creating social media content, creating social media graphics and flyers, creating animated explainer videos and other video content, updating our website, managing our e-marketing system, and conducting digital outreach to our client population. The person in this position will use social media and other mediums to communicate with a variety of audiences, including legal aid clients, advocates, policy makers, and donors. This position reports to the Director of Advancement & Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly post to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, share relevant content, and interact as appropriate with other accounts.
  • Plan and create social media content, including content geared at clients, policymakers, advocates, donors, and other key audiences.
  • Create and manage a social media and editorial calendar.
  • Create social media kits for CLS advocacy efforts and partner organizations.
  • Design social media graphics and flyers; create animated explainer videos and other content.
  • Stay abreast of social media trends and integrate trends into our content, as appropriate.
  • Distill complex legal information into tone-appropriate, accessible social media content.
  • Create materials and content that promote CLS’s work, highlighting the value of the organization and informing a broad range of audiences about key issues that CLS works on.
  • Grow our audience on social media; track metrics and engagement.
  • Field social media comments and questions and direct them to the appropriate legal unit for response as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, plan and execute communications strategy and integrate social media with our broader communications strategy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply a racial justice and equity lens to all our communications.
  • Excellent writing, strategic communications, and messaging skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, and to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality, and to exercise sound judgement.
  • An understanding of the right tone and best practices across social media platforms.
  • Ability to develop content tailored to the various platforms based on substantive information.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of communications experience, including two years of professional experience with social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok.
  • Proficiency with design, e-mail marketing, and website management programs. CLS currently uses Canva, Constant Contact, and WordPress.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software programs as needed.

Compensation: This is a full-time position. The salary range for this position is $50,000-$55,000.
