Children's Attorney

Description:
Are you ready to leave the grind of a monotonous private sector career where case results feel like they make no real difference? Or are you graduating from law school and want to do the most meaningful work there is? If you are interested in changing a child’s life, then read this: Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, a non-profit, public interest law firm, is seeking a full-time Attorney for its Children’s Attorneys Project. The Children’s Attorneys Project represents abused and neglected children in foster care, advocating for what they want to happen and  ensuring their voices are heard in the child welfare/dependency action as decisions that will change the trajectory of their lives are being made. From the time a child first enters the system until they exit it, our lawyers are by their side: attending all court hearings, visiting them in their homes and within the community, counseling them about their options, keeping them informed about their cases, advocating for them during meetings, and helping them plan for their futures.  The Children’s Attorneys Project began in 1999 with one attorney and has since grown to 29 attorneys, as well as 350 volunteer attorneys, allowing us to represent every child in foster care in Clark County. Our dedicated team has four nationally certified child welfare law specialists and a team of experienced attorneys ready to train lawyers excited to do this important work. Our office received the National Association of Counsel for Children’s award for being the best children’s law office in the nation, and our lawyers are respected by the judiciary and work to shape child welfare policy as they advocate for the most vulnerable in the courtroom: the children.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is committed to public interest law and community service and has the desire to work with and zealously advocate for our clients. While some litigation experience is helpful, no prior experience is necessary as Legal Aid Center provides extensive training. The ability to speak Spanish is always beneficial. The candidate must be a licensed attorney in good standing from any United States jurisdiction (Nevada offers special licensing for attorneys relocating to Nevada to provide legal services through Legal Aid Center.)
