About the Legal Aid Justice Center: The Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization that battles poverty and injustice by solving critical legal problems for individuals and communities and leveraging those efforts to identify, investigate, and attack systemic injustices. About the Development Team: LAJC’s Development Team consists of a Director of Development(DoD) and three Chief Development Officers (CDOs) assigned to our offices in Charlottesville, Northern Virginia, and Richmond. The DoD has responsibility for agency-wide communications, branding, grant writing, and data systems. The CDOs are responsible for individual, corporate, and law firm giving from their respective regions. CDOs have direct access to LAJC leadership including the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and have a great degree of autonomy in their day-to-day operations.

About the Position: LAJC is seeking a Chief Development Officer for our flagship Charlottesville campaign. This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding well over $500,000 annually from Charlottesville area donors, business, and law firms as well as a growing base of national supporters. The position is tasked with finding the right balance between relationship building with major donors/prospects and growing our base of annual support.

Requirements: 

Required Qualifications:

• A well-defined capacity for moral outrage when faced with injustices large and small

• A donor-centric, personal approach to building trust

• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written

• The ability to prioritize from principles while ensuring that essential tasks get done

• A healthy sense of humor is required

Preferred Qualifications: 

• A demonstrated track record of soliciting meaningful gifts

• Proficiency with communications technology (social media, website, advocacy platforms)

• Salesforce experience a plus

• Capital Campaign experience a plus.
